SmackDown airs tonight (June 20) with a live show emanating from Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This is the second episode of SmackDown during the three week build towards Night of Champions, which takes place on June 28 in Saudi Arabia.

John Cena’s retirement tour has been something of a dud, mostly because his long-awaited heel turn feels too forced and just isn’t all that interesting. Thankfully R-Truth is here to save the day! After losing against Cena at Saturday Night’s Main Event and then announcing his shocking exit from WWE on social media, Truth is now back as Ron Killings and making Cena’s life miserable. Even as Cena is trying to focus on his upcoming WWE championship defense against CM Punk in Saudi Arabia, Killings keeps popping up with a crazy look in his eyes to ambush John. Cena can’t take it anymore, so the rematch with Truth/Killings is happening tonight. This is John’s first match on SmackDown television since 2022, and it may end up being the last one he ever wrestles on the blue brand. There aren’t a lot of dates left on his crappy retirement tour, after all.

The King of the Ring semifinals begin tonight with Randy Orton vs. Sami Zayn. All four semifinalists in the tourney are babyfaces. The Queen of the Ring semifinals also begin tonight with Asuka vs. Alexa Bliss. Asuka just returned to WWE on this week’s Raw and can make a big statement with two tournament wins in the span of just a few days. United States Champion Jacob Fatu finally had enough of Solo Sikoa’s bullshit and turned on him at Money in the Bank. R-Truth, or Ron Killings, depending on who you ask, has been the thorn in the side of Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena since returning to WWE. Truth cost Cena and Logan Paul a win at Money in the Bank against “American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso. On last week’s SmackDown, Truth would jump the “last real champion” over and over again, prompting WWE SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis to intervene. Truth wants only one thing: a match with John Cena on this week’s SmackDown. Wish granted. R-Truth can finally get his revenge this Friday night after countless embarrassments and beatdowns from Cena in months past. However, Ron Killings might be in the driver’s seat now, meaning John Cena will have to come up with a whole new game plan if he really wants to bury Truth once and for all.
