SmackDown airs tonight (May 2) with a live show emanating from Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. This is the second episode of SmackDown during the three week build towards Backlash, which takes place on May 10.

When the Miz has a mic in his hand, he loves to ramble on about every championship he’s won during his WWE career and the fact that he has a win over John Cena in the main event of WrestleMania. Of course Miz is one of the weakest main eventers in WrestleMania history and his match with John may have been even worse than the one Cody Rhodes just had with Cena a couple weeks ago, but those points don’t matter much in kayfabe. At any rate, it can get exhausting and boring whenever The Miz runs down the list of his WWE accolades, so thankfully Aleister Black returned to SmackDown last week to interrupt the A-Lister and knock him out with the devastating Black Mass spinning roundhouse kick.

That leads to tonight’s episode, where Black vs. Miz is the only match currently advertised for the show. This is Aleister’s first match in WWE since 2020, and it would be completely shocking if he doesn’t win it, especially since Miz is a lower card guy these days. Randy Orton is scheduled to appear on tonight’s show, but WWE Champion John Cena is not currently advertised to be there. WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton was ambushed by the returning Nia Jax last week. There’s a lot of history and bad blood between these two, and it looks like they’ll have at least one more title match to settle their issues for good. United States Champion Jacob Fatu stood tall last week in a wild scene that saw Damian Priest, LA Knight, and Drew McIntyre all get laid out. Knight and McIntyre made it clear that they want a shot at Fatu, while Priest still wants to get his hands on Drew.
