SmackDown airs tonight (Apr. 25) with a live show emanating from Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. This is the first episode of SmackDown during the three week build towards Backlash, which takes place on May 10.

The Street Profits’ WWE tag team championship defense against Motor City Machine Guns last week was ruined by interference from DIY. GM Nick Aldis has had enough of this kind of chaos that has been going on all year in the tag team division, so he booked a three way TLC match with the belts on the line at Wrestle Mania 41 SmackDown the week after WrestleMania 41. Hey, that’s tonight! There have been weekly teaser videos with smoky graphics and dark imagery that lists today’s date for the big reveal. A lot of people think this means Aleister Black is returning to WWE tonight, following Rusev’s return on the Raw after WrestleMania.

A lot of fans were upset about WWE benching Montez Ford, Angelo Dawkins, Chris Sabin, Alex Shelley, Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, and the WWE tag team titles at the biggest show of the year. But now these wrestlers get their consolation prize tonight, which is (presumably) a hell of a lot more TV time in a TLC match to show off why they are among the best in the world at what they do in the squared circle. For whatever it’s worth, WWE’s last official TLC match took place over four years ago.  Well, yeah, the former is probably better because more people will remember and rewatch WrestleMania 41 years from now, and there’s always a chance to steal the show. Now these teams will go out there and show everyone why WWE’s decision-makers got it wrong.
