SmackDown airs tonight (Apr. 11) with a live show emanating from Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington. This is the sixth episode of SmackDown during the seven week build towards WrestleMania 41, which takes place on the weekend of April 19 and 20.

WWE Champion Cody Rhodes returns to SmackDown tonight. Rhodes hasn’t wrestled on Raw or SmackDown programming in over two months, so there’s a very good chance the champ is here to do more talking when he shows up tonight. That’s fine and all, but Cody’s WrestleMania opponent John Cena is not advertised for tonight’s show (just like he wasn’t on Raw earlier this week), nor is he currently advertised for the go home episode of Raw. Meanwhile, The Rock has completely disappeared from WWE since Elimination Chamber. It looks like none of Cody’s enemies will be on hand tonight when he cuts his promo, and that takes some of the steam out of it.

The Rock’s absence from WWE really stands out over the last month, because his soul-taking angle from February was the impetus for Cena’s heel turn. The Final Boss hasn’t been around to follow up on that angle, and Cody and John have barely mentioned Dwayne during their promos over the last month. As a result, a key ingredient is missing during WWE’s build to the WrestleMania 41 main event. Hell, we still don’t even know for sure if The Rock will be at WrestleMania, and we’re only one week away from the show. There is supposed to be a tag team gauntlet match tonight to determine the challengers for WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez at WrestleMania. The teams that have been announced for the gauntlet are Natalya & Maxxine Dupri, Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark, Michin & B-Fab, Katana Chance & Kayden Carter, Bayley & Lyra Valkyria, and Piper Niven & Alba Fyre. The first four teams listed have not received any kind of recent push in WWE, so that makes Bayley and Piper’s teams the favorites.
