The WWE Raw preview for tonight focuses on the fallout from SummerSlam while the company begins its build toward the next PLE, August’s Clash in Paris. We know that Stephanie Vaquer will challenge Naomi for the Women’s World Championship but the rest of the card is open. Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes, newly crowned world champions, will need challengers, as will Tiffany Stratton now that she’s vanquished yet another foe. The road to Clash in Paris begins in a few hours but first, there’s some SummerSlam fallout housekeeping that will need to be addressed as WWE heads to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn for WWE Monday Night Raw tonight, live on Netflix at 8 PM ET.
One of the biggest stories coming out of SummerSlam is Seth Rollins ‘ruse of the century’ where he faked a knee injury on crutches in order to cash in his Money in the Bank contract on his hated rival, CM Punk, and become the new world heavyweight champion. Rollins will almost surely show up in the ring tonight on Raw to brag about making a fool out of so many people and to explain how he had the vision to pull off such a masterful scheme. Speaking of The Vision, Seth’s alliance with Paul Heyman, Bron Breakker, and Bronson Reed now holds way more power on Raw. And they’ll need all that power because many of WWE’s top babyfaces are pissed off and will be coming after them from here. I’m talking about Punk, Roman Reigns, and Jey Uso, at the very least, and SmackDown star LA Knight as well. In fact, the megastar is the one who shared the ring with Seth and beat him when he first faked the knee injury, so LA has a great argument about deserving a title match against this lying liar who lies.
The devil’s greatest trick was convincing the world he didn’t exist and Seth Rollins’ was convincing the media, the fans, the locker room that he had a knee injury. At SummerSlam, Rollins pulled off the ruse of the century at the expense of his bitter rival, CM Punk. As Punk celebrated finally winning another WWE world title, his first in 12 years, Rollins emerged to metaphorically crash the party while literally crashing his briefcase into Punk’s back. A few stomps later and the rest was history. While not confirmed, it seems all but likely that Rollins will open the show tonight to explain to the world that he’s always been two steps ahead. As Triple H said, Rollins has been playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers. He’s always had a plan B and now, he’s world champion, and a reign of dominance seems likely to follow.
