Raw airs tonight (Apr. 21) with a live show from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is the first episode of Raw during the three week build towards Backlash, which takes place on May 10 in St. Louis.

John Cena won the WWE championship from Cody Rhodes last night at WrestleMania 41 thanks to interference from Travis Scott, a low blow, and Cody being a gullible doofus. Cena now has the record for most career world titles in WWE history, which in theory should kick off a hot run at the top of the card for the rest of his retirement tour this year. The glaring problem with this idea is that Cena’s heel turns sucks. The WrestleMania main event was a bad match with an even worse finish, and that mostly falls on Cena’s shoulders for losing several steps in the ring now that he is an aging part-timer. His selling was bad and he moves slower than ever before in the ring. His acting as a heel in his promos prior to WrestleMania had mixed results. Cena’s heel turn just isn’t all that interesting anymore.

Given the way John looked in the ring at ‘Mania, it’s hard to get excited for what he will deliver in the ring in his subsequent title matches. WWE’s broadcasters on the WrestleMania post-match show even acknowledged that his ‘Mania match wasn’t good and that Cena isn’t here to entertain the fans anymore. Who knows, maybe having bad championship matches is all part of Cena’s evil plan to ruin wrestling for everyone this year. Speaking of title matches, there are only three weeks to go until Backlash, which means WWE may run an angle tonight to determine Cena’s first challenger. Backlash happens to take place in Randy Orton’s hometown of St. Louis. Paul Heyman turned on CM Punk and Roman Reigns at WrestleMania to align himself with Seth Rollins. Becky Lynch finally returned to WWE at WrestleMania and won the WWE Women’s tag team championship alongside Lyra Valkyria. Lynch says she is back full time. Jey Uso won the big one and became the new world heavyweight champion when he forced GUNTHER to tap out at WrestleMania.
