It took them a while, but WWE eventually came around and decided to start using the names of WCW and ECW PPVs. It owns them after all, and despite lying dormant for decades, they still hold water with a lot of older fans. While most of the revived PPV names belonged to WCW, Heatwave is one ECW made famous. WWE used it for the first time in 2022, making it an NXT PLE, and it has remained a part of the third brand's calendar ever since. NXT Heatwave returns for the fourth consecutive year, and we've got everything you need to know about the show below.

With a name like Heatwave, this particular PLE needs to take place at the height of the summer. After moving from August to early July in 2024, NXT Heatwave returns to its regular slot for 2025, taking place on Sunday, August 24, 2025. That's the same day as AEW Forbidden Door, but the AEW show will be taking place earlier in the day. The main card will begin at 7 pm EST.

WWE kicked off 2025 but mixing up where you can watch its programming, and it will be doing the same to kick off 2026. For the rest of 2025, however, WWE's PLEs will air live wherever you regularly watch them. That means Heatwave will be live and on-demand on Peacock in the US, and Netflix, along with all other WWE programming in most other places around the world. The NXT locker room will be heading to Lowell, Massachusetts for Heatwave, with its next PLE taking place in the Lowell Memorial Auditorium. Fitting that the brand is taking Heatwave back to the north east, what with the show's ECW roots.

Blake Monroe saw the chance to make a name for herself upon arrival in NXT by buddying up with Jordynne Grace. Monroe then seized the opportunity to make an even bigger name for herself by turning on Grace on a huge stage, Evolution, costing her a chance to win the NXT Women's Title. That has forced Grace to put her title hunt on pause as she seeks payback, and she will get that payback at Heatwave. There's nothing tangible on the line in this one. Just Grace looking for revenge, and Monroe attempting to prove she was right to pick a fight with the former Knockouts Champion and quickly establish herself as won of the top stars in NXT.

Oba Femi has been one of the more dominant NXT Champions in recent memory, winning the title at the start of the year and beating anyone who has dared to challenge him for it ever since. However, if Femi is the future of WWE, then Evans is not many places in line behind him, and at Heatwave, the rising star has the opportunity to pick up the biggest win of his career. Evans has been here before. In a way, he has been chasing Femi for his entire title run, coming up short the last time he had the chance to become champion. There's a risk that, if Evans loses again, his stock drops through the floor. My guess is this is where Femi's run ends with WWE casting half an eye on a potential main roster debut.
