The matches were great, as expected. Overall in the show, TNA and NXT were tied with match wins, so technically neither brand won the night. While tensions are still high between NXT and TNA, Josh Briggs has some unfinished business with Matt Cardona. On the September 30 edition of NXT, Matt Cardona interfered in Briggs’ match against Myles Borne. At NXT Showdown, Jacy Jayne and Sol Ruca were the last two women standing from Team NXT. They secured the win for their team, but now Jacy Jayne must refocus on defending her championship. There is currently no number one contender for the NXT Women’s Championship, but that will change this week. A battle royal will be held to determine who will be next to challenge Jacy Jayne.

This interference by Cardona not only cost Briggs the match, but also cost Briggs his chance to be on Team NXT at NXT Showdown. During NXT Showdown, both men barged into the General Manager, Ava’s, office, demanding a match against one another. This will be an exciting match to watch as it will be Matt Cardona’s first match back under WWE since his release back in 2020. Over the past five years, he has worked hard and reinvented himself as a performer; now he gets to bring it back to the company that had previously let him go. It will be moving and refreshing to see Matt Cardona compete in a WWE NXT ring rather than Zack Ryder.
