Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) crashes State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, on Sat., June 14, 2025, with UFC Atlanta. Former 170-pound champion, Kamaru Usman, collides with fast-rising knockout artist, Joaquin Buckley, in a blistering main event mashup scheduled for five, five-minute rounds. In UFC Atlanta’s co-main event, former strawweight titleholder, Rose Namajunas, locks horns with grizzled 125-pound veteran, Miranda Maverick, setting the stage for an explosive showdown in the women’s flyweight division.
Buckley is in the midst of a hunting tour. “New Mansa” is savaging the old guard of the Welterweight establishment, and there’s no bigger trophy than Usman. Sure, “The Nigerian Nightmare” is riding a three-fight losing streak, but have we forgotten all other context? Two of those losses came to Leon Edwards, and one was that all-time desperation Hail May head kick in a fight Usman was generally dominating. Then, he stepped off the couch on short-notice to take a round off Khamzat Chimaev ... up a weight class! There are reasons to be concerned about Usman’s injuries and long layoff, but in the Octagon, he still demonstrated the skills of a world-class fighter last we checked.
Kamaru Usman (20-4) returns to action for the first time since October 2023 as he looks to snap a tough three-fight losing streak. The former welterweight champion made his debut at middleweight but lost to Khamzat Chimaev last time out and now returns to welterweight. Usman stepped in for that Chimaev fight at short notice after Paulo Costa withdrew but the decision backfired as he was dominated by Chimaev. He has taken time out to reset and now he comes back to the Octagon and faces one of the most in-form fighters in the division. Joaquin Buckley (21-6) is loving life right now having won his last six bouts and his confidence is through the roof. He has not lost in over three and a half years and four of his six wins have come by knockout. So much in this fight depends on what mental and physical shape Usman returns in. He has not been the same since Leon Edwards’ stunning head kick knocked him out in August 2022 but the time away may help him reset.
