Dynamite airs tonight (June 4) with a live Fyter Fest show from Mission Ballroom in Denver, Colorado. This is the second episode of Dynamite during the seven week build towards All In, which takes place on July 12. Tony Khan is promoting tonight’s AEW Fyter Fest as a free PPV quality event. The show will act as a four hour block of Dynamite and Collision airing live back-to-back on the same night, rather than broadcasting a taped episode of Collision in its typical Saturday time slot this weekend.

While in theory it sounds great to say this is a free PPV show for wrestling fans to enjoy, the reality is that it’s mostly just another episode of Dynamite, this time with two hours added on at the end. That’s just way too much wrestling late on a Wednesday night. We’ve already seen with WWE for well over a decade now that three hour weekly TV shows are too long and lose a good chunk of the audience by the final hour. Sometimes it’s not even easy to maintain an audience for two full hours, as evidenced by Dynamite’s pattern of often having smaller TV viewership for its main event. Tacking two hours on is just asking for the show to suffer in the ratings.

AEW might just be able to buck that trend, though, given the way viewership peaked at the end of last week’s Dynamite for the first face-to-face meeting between AEW Women’s World Champion “Timeless” Toni Storm and TBS Champion Mercedes Mone. Fans are definitely interested in seeing their title match at All In, which is undoubtedly the biggest women’s match in AEW history. Toni and Mercedes will likely be seeing each other tonight at Fyter Fest as well. That’s because Mercedes is on commentary for Storm’s tag team match with Mina Shirakawa against Julia Hart and Skye Blue. If so, it hopefully won’t happen in an overrun for a show that’s already too damn long.

Kenny Omega defends the AEW International championship in a 4-way match tonight against Brody King, Mascara Dorada, and Claudio Castagnoli. I think it’s pretty clear these challengers don’t stand much of a chance to dethrone Kenny ahead of his expected title match at All In against AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada. Regardless, this Omega 4-way on paper looks like it will be the best match bell-to-bell at Fyter Fest. Mark Briscoe was choked out by AEW World Champion Jon Moxley last week in a team match. Briscoe is tempting fate again by stepping in the ring with Mox in a singles match at Fyter Fest. There’s no belt on the line, as Mark is just looking to prove to his kids that there’s no quit in him.

Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler are moving on from their beef with Nigel McGuinness and now want to win CMLL tag team gold. They’ll start down that road tonight with a warm-up match against Atlantis Jr. & Templario, who used fancy lucha libre skills to get the better of FTR last week on Collision. Thekla’s surprise AEW debut came at the expense of former women’s world champion Jamie Hayter. The Toxic Spider is now set to make her official AEW in-ring debut tonight at Fyter Fest against a currently unnamed opponent. There’s trios action tonight at Fyter Fest with “Speedball” Mike Bailey, Komander, and Kevin Knight going up against La Faccion Ingobernable (The Beast Mortos, RUSH, and Dralistico). This is Knight’s AEW return after spending much of the last month competing in Japan at NJPW’s Best of the Super Juniors.
