Swerve Strickland, Hangman Page, and Kenny Omega all want to become the next AEW world champion. However, Swerve might be the only one who actually has a plan to make it happen. Swerve and Hangman put their differences aside in recent months to form a pretty damn good team, but they appear to be going in different directions now. We saw a glimpse of that last week when they shared the ring with Omega. Hangman and Omega offered each other respect and said “may the best man win” if they end up fighting each other at some point during this world title chase. Swerve looked skeptical about the whole thing and didn’t join in that with sentiment. Later in the show, Strickland put his arm around “The Jet” Kevin Knight and talked him up as the future of AEW and the wrestling business. Knight took exception to the idea that he is the future rather than the present. Swerve told him to go do something like win the AEW world trios championship first and then maybe they can talk about fighting each other.

Well, that’s exactly what happened on Collision. Hangman joined forces with JetSpeed to defeat The Opps and become the new trios champions. Swerve came out afterwards to congratulate them with a slow golf clap. Now it will be Strickland versus Knight tonight on Dynamite, where The Jet has a chance to prove to Swerve why he can be the face of AEW right now. Kenny Omega also needs to pick up some wins if he wants to move to the front of the line for an AEW world title shot. Omega can get one such win tonight when he goes one-on-one with Josh Alexander. This is the man who broke Kota Ibushi’s leg and now brags about it, so it’s a deeply personal issue for Omega to get revenge on behalf of his Golden Lover. AEW World Trios Champion “Speedball” Mike Bailey goes one-on-one tonight against Samoa Joe. Bailey is the underdog going up against a former AEW world champion.
